PALE DI SAN MARTINO: San Martino Altipiano - ascent 780 metres, time - 7.5 hours 'A marvellous circuit of the rolling lanscape of the Altipiano, a very bare plateau surrounded by awe-inspiring peaks. From the gondola, first ascend Rosetta (2743m), NW is the majestic Cimon della Pala. From Rif. Pedrotti follow a broad path (n709) upwards to Passo Pradidali Basso and nearby Fradusta glacier, then descend into a desolate rubble valley to Rifugio Pradidali. After ascending Passo di Ball (2443m) take a exposed path, with fixed cables, surrounded by a stunning array of spires and peaks, and finally descend towards San Martino at junction 2270m.' map : Kompass 76 Pale di San Martino guidebook: 'Shorter Walks in the Dolomites' by Gillian Price (Cicerone press) start/finish: San Martino - Rosetta - Rif. Pradidali.
Passo Rolle to Rif. Mulaz - ascent 1200 metres, time - 7 hrs 'A tiring climb with steep terrain, Rif. Mulaz is superbly located amongst dramatic peaks. The walk starts at Passo Rolle and takes a former Austrian military road into Val Venegia. The views are brilliant with Cimon della Pala and Cimon della Vezzona dominating. The 600m ascent to Passo del Mulaz (2619m) is strenous and relentless, but the views are great and its not too long before you reach the pass and then a 15min drop to Rif. Mulaz (2517m) Return the same way to Passo Rolle.' map : Kompass 76 Pale di San Martino guidebook: 'Shorter Walks in the Dolomites' by Gillian Price (Cicerone press) start/finish: Passo Rolle - Rif. Mulaz (2571m) - Passo Rolle.
