DAY 4 TO 6 CHAMPEX TO AROLLA Day 4: Champex to Cabane Mont Fort including bus/train. distance 22kms, time 8 hours "Next few days would be in the high mountains, need good weather. Caught the train to Le Chable and climbed upto Cabane Mont Fort, via Verbier. From the hut a magnificient panorama of Dents d'Midi, Grand Jorasses and Grand Combin". Day 5: Cabane Mont Fort to Cabane Prafleuri via Grand Desert. distance 13kms, time 9 hours "Left the hut at 7, three cols to cross. At Col Termin, ibex and chamois grazing, Mont Blanc appearing far to the west. Reached Col de Louvie (2965 metres) by lunchtime and then crossed the Grand Desert glacier. Finally the climb up the Col de Prafleuri (2987 metres)." |

Day 6: Cabane Prafleuri to Arolla via Cabane Dix.
distance 17kms, time 8 hours "With Mont Blanc de Cheilon forbidding presence growing, the climb upto Cabane Dix (2928m) was long and hard, frequent rests, but around 12, hut came into view. After lunch, the crossing of Glacier de Chelion glacial moraines took some time, then up the ladders of Pas de Chevres. View spectacular, Mont Collon nearby, the huge peak of Dent Blanche in the distance and the first view of the Matterhorn in the far distance". |
