"The hut warden came down with us as it was the end of her week. Set off at 6.30am and it was dawn as we descended from the Lotschenlucke (3173m). The way down was not easy, zigzaging crevasses and jumping over minor ones. Eventually after 4 hours reached terra firma and unroped. Unluckily missed the postbus by a few minutes, so had a beer and posted a few postcards. THE ALPS ONLINE	view from Gemschlicke	Route Facts: The huts we stayed in were: Oberaarjoch Hut -    53 SFrancs. Finsteraarhorn Hut - 54 SFrancs. Hollandia Hut -        55 SFrancs. Accomodation was dormitory style and only the Hollandia hut had indoor toilets. Finsteraarhorn hut was always busy, so booking was essential. Hollandia hut was quiet and on our last day its only customers. The route itself was strenous, and because of snow, crevasses were hidden so we were roped most of the time, except when scrambling rocks. We were lucky with the weather and only had two cloudy and wet mornings, the afternoons being generally fine and sunny.
