A 2 week splitboard mountaineering holiday in the Tyrol was the plan, but poor weather and bad luck
stood in the way (plus closed huts!).
Week 1. Silvretta High-Level ski tour Traverse.
From Ischgl, via Heidelberger,Jamtal, Weisbadner huts to Galtur, ascending Breite Krone (3079m)
and DreilanderSpitze (3197m).
Day 1. Ischgl to Heidelberger Hut via Fuorcia da Val Gronda (2752m). After reaching Paulinkopf
via 2 lifts, and surfing to Zeblasjoch, we ascended to just below the Piz Val Gronda, before boarding down to the Heidelberger hut.
Day 2. Climbing Breite Krone (3079m).
Ascending the Jamtalferner from Jamtal hut
Day 2. Heidelberger to Jamtal hut via Breite Krone.
A bright and clear day, we joined the throng skinning up to
Kronenjoch, before climbing Breite Krone (3079m). A glorious panorama,
with great views of the Fluchthorn (Piz Fenga). Surfed down to the Jamtal hut.
Day 3. Jamtal Hut to Weisbadner via Dreilanderspitze.
Set off early across the Jamtalferner, steadily ascending towards Ochsenscharte. On reaching the col, we left our
voile skiboards, put on crampons and climbed the Dreilanderspitz via the NW ridge and a final airy summit climb.
It was now snowing, so we got down quickly and surfed beneath the Ochsenkopf to the Weisbadner hut.
Day 4. Weisbadner Hut to Galtur. Today was to be the ascent of the Piz Buin (3312m) but an hour out of the hut, Lee's
plate on his board broke and we had no replacement. So after looking at various options, we skinned back to the hut, had lunch, then surfed down the Ochsental, crossed the Silvretta Stausee, and finally
down the road to Galtur. A long frustrating day.
