Courchevel.
First trip of the year is eagerly anticipated.
First service and wax the boards, then check out snow conditions, pack the car and go!
Spent the first 2 days at Courchevel (Hotel Cabriere near Moutier), weather was good and
found powder in the Saulire couloirs and the Vallee des Avals.
Sainte Foy.
Our base for the rest of the week was Hotel Le Monal (Sainte-Foy). First few days were cloudy and
we had fun in the trees at Val d'Isere (La Fornet/Le Laisinant and Lavancher Couloir), Sainte Foy and Les Arcs.
Vallee des Avals, Courchevel
Chardonnet Top Couloir, Tignes
Espace Killy.
On Friday sunshine! Arrived early at Val Claret and hiked up to the Point du Chardonnet
(past the first couloir). Below was a 40 degree slope, it looked in great condition, not many people
down and lots of powder. After a few turns, straightlined it (past a recent avalanche!) to the Grand Huit chair.
Absolutely awesome!
Next, down the popular off-piste descent of Vallon de la Sache to Les Brevieres. First
a short 40 degree gully and then the valley broadens, before another gully and down (avoiding the waterfall) to the village.
On the last day, the far-side of Val d'Isere (Col de l'Iseran) and a final afternoon finding jumps in the Cugnai valley,
before descending back to the car park, quick change and the long journey home.
